Bio

Being the product of a carpenter father and graphic designer-slash-artist mother, Gretchen has a unique blend of both 2-D and 3-D skills. She spent her childhood publishing monthly family newsletters, making artwork out of every medium possible, and building "robots" out of cardboard boxes and old calculator and radio parts.

Gretchen's first job at 15 years old was detassleing corn. Getting up at 4:00 am every day, only to return home dehydrated, soaked with mud and bleeding ankles and fingers, has a way of making you appreciate the little things and preparing you for just about any "hard" job to come! No matter how tough a task was handed to Gretchen, she will stick through it because, well, at least she is not physically laboring in direct sunlight all day and gets to sit down every now and then.

Her college career began at UW-Stout, majoring in Graphic Design for 2 years, where she discovered the field of industrial design and her true passion.

Gretchen lived in Ohio just long enough to become a Buckeye, earning her bachelor's degree in Industrial Design from The Ohio State University in 2003. She has worked at the Scotts Company, Procter & Gamble, Best Buy, and as a principal in a 3-person partnership to name a few. Her wide range of experience includes product design, graphic design, retail fixture design, illustration, and more.

In 2006 and 2007 Gretchen served in a 2 year volunteer role as president of the Industrial Designers' Society of America, Minnesota chapter. Along with her team of officers, she lead a very active local design community, planned and executed chapter events, and published a monthly e-newsletter and bi-annual printed newsletter. Through this experience Gretchen learned a lot about leadership, bringing together a community, and the value of delegating work to other highly qualified colleagues to achieve the greater goal.

In between doing design work for others, Gretchen is busy running her other two companies, Paintertainment and Junk Mail Gems, all while raising her sons Sammy & Toby as a full time mommy via her home studio in Bloomington, Minnesota.

In the rare occasion that Gretchen has spare time, she enjoys painting, baking, playing the piano, biking, camping, fishing, and especially making more work for herself!
